Top 5 Degree Programs for Outdoorsmen

With graduation just around the corner for most college seniors, I thought it would be a good idea to write a blog about some majors that should be offered for the outdoors-type.
I mean, come on, who wants to learn about math, anyway? We all know 2+2=5. Just kidding, but check out the top 5 outdoor majors I recommend colleges add to their curricula!
- Bachelor of Science in Scouting - This is sometimes a lifetime feat. It’s taken me almost 10 years to learn what my dad has been trying to teach me all my life. If there was a college degree solely dedicated to scouting, it would be something I’d consider coming out of high school.
- Bachelors in Outdoor Television - We all love the Outdoor Channel. Why not create a major devoted to hunting and fishing television? I know a ton of people who would have skipped over the School of Hard Knocks and went to school to one day be a hunting personality on TV.
- Management of Game Cleaning - For us outdoor-type, a degree in game cleaning is something that could be used for the rest of our lives. For example, I’m in a class called History of Ohio. I really don’t think this is going to serve me well for the rest of my life like game cleaning will!
- Bachelor of Science in Taxidermy – For hunters and fishermen, taxidermy is a must. We’ve shot our fair share of trophies, and it would be nice to be able to do it ourselves. Now taxidermists do a great job, but I would love to be able to mount my deer and turkeys myself instead of spending $400-500.
- Science of Game Calls - This would be one of the coolest degrees ever. You’d end up being like Caeser on Dog Whisperer, only you would be able to talk to deer. That might come in handy during the rut! But watch out, that buck might come too close for comfort!
Well, those were the top five majors I’d like to see for the outdoor-type people in the world. Don’t forget to check out the CollegiateCamo decals! Make sure you order yours today!
2011 SHOT Show Recap

What an amazing time we had at SHOT Show! SHOT Show was held January 18-22, 2011 at the Sands Convention Center in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. Co-Founder Marty Morris, Manager Jeanie Wheeler, Pro-Staffers Dave West and Laura Rice and guest Kristi Greer all attended.
We flew in on Tuesday, January 18 to Las Vegas. After checking into our hotel, we headed over to the convention. If you have never experienced SHOT Show, it is a sight to be seen. It is the place to be in the outdoor industry with thousands of booths from thousands of vendors from all over the world! You get to see new items and feel a little bad when you realize you can’t take any of the firearms or ammunition on display back home. But, it is really great to see the new products from industry standards like Remington and Smith & Wesson to new, cool products that are not even in stores yet.
Seeing all the new items is not my favorite portion of SHOT Show, though. The networking and celebrity sights are quite possibly the best aspect of SHOT Show. We met up with our friend, Pro-Staff member and Outdoor Channel Outfitters host, Neal Rohrbach for the first time. This is just the first of the well-known people we met. We also ran into Ted Nugent, Michael Waddell, The Duck Commanders, Jim Shockey, Jim Zumbo, Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, Craig Morgan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Steven Segall, Colorado Buck, Kelly Gotch, Manny Puig, Mike Irvine and John Stephens.
The highlights of SHOT Show always seem to be the parties. On Wednesday, we attended the Sportsman Channel party. Free food, drinks and great company are always around. We even watched personal friend of Marty Morris, John Stephens of RNT Calls, accept his award. We left before the party got too far out of hand, or else we closed the party down. The details are a little sketchy right now, but it was a blast!
On Thursday we attended the Outdoor Channel’s 11th annual Golden Moose Awards were hosted by Willie Robertson. And what an entertaining evening it was! Pro-Staffer Laura Rice even had a nice photo opportunity with Willie himself, as she did her own rendition of his infamous beard! We watched one of our favorite outdoorsmen “Uncle” Ted Nugent accept the first annual Lightning Rod award. Manny Piug and Sheri Daye also accepted In The Line of Fire awards, Puig for losing a finger to a rattlesnake and Daye for a pretty nasty spear gun accident. A reminder of how outdoor fun can go wrong, even for professionals.
With the parties over, the convention wrapped up Friday afternoon. Needless to say, we were ready to go home and come back and rest up to do it again next year!

CollegiateCamo at Shot Show 2010 in Las Vegas!
January 14, 2010 by CollegiateCamo · 1 Comment
Our CollegiateCamo crew leaves Sunday for SHOT Show and we are really excited to see all of the new and exciting stuff in the world of hunting, shooting and the outdoors. This year SHOT Show is at the Sands Exhibition Center in Las Vegas from January 19 to 22.
It’s an especially fun year for CollegiateCamo since we are actually exhibiting this year in Booth #353! Yes! The first time we will represent the company to our friends in the retail business. SHOT Show is an amazing trade show that is only open to people of the trade. I’m sure we’ll see some of our friends who own stores that love our college camo decals and college camo apparel.
I’ve never seen so many miles of booths – it’s like a hunter’s dreamland for equipment, firearms, archery, outdoor apparel and accessories. I’ve heard that there are more than 18 miles of booths and all the outdoors goods and services are amazing! You have never seen so many outdoorsmen items in one place. SHOT Show attracts folks from all 50 states every year. It’s worth noting that SHOT show is sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. (Couldn’t do it without them.)
So we will drag six CollegiateCamo staff out to Vegas and we plan on having a blast! On Wednesday we will do a very exciting TV shoot for the Outdoors Channel. We’ll be featured in a segment in February that shows new and exciting items available as seen at SHOT Show. So, we’re trying to “buff it up” in time to look great for the camera!
And aside from all the excitement at SHOT Show, did we mention parties galore? Yes, we’ve been invited to the Sportsman Channel shindig and we are ready to P-A-R-T-Y! They are great friends, especially our buddy Matt Blouin!
Jeanie and Marty (CollegiateCamo founder) will be seeing Ted Nugent and Love Pump in Vegas. We’ve even got feelers out to get in to Ted Nugent’s party, but that’s a tough one to crack. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Last, but certainly not least, our friend Jody Niccum – 2007 World Duck Calling Champion – will be with us on this trip. He will have autographed photos at our booth of him and his huge trophy. Come see us at SHOT Show in Booth #353 and let the fun begin!
