Get the Heck out of Missouri
December 29, 2011 by DaveWest · Leave a Comment
This trip to Nevada actually started in Arkansas at the “World Duck Calling” Championship. My buddy was headed back to Nevada and the invitation to tag along to hunt was irresistible.
After 27 hours of driving we reached Fallon Nevada; the nearest town to good hunting. The first day was spent scouting waterfowl; mainly ducks and Tundra swans.
Sometimes it happens like this and the first day of hunting was a bust…we zeroed out.
The next day made up for it. This was the first time I had swan hunted; it’s not legal to hunt swans in Missouri & Kansas where I spend most of my hunting time so this was exciting.
We used about 40 floating swan decoys and a special swan call by Allan Stanley Game Calls.
Our calling was successful. They are BIG birds! What’s cool is that the ducks in Nevada follow around the swans since the swans dig up the food from the bottom. Most of the time if you find swans there are plenty of ducks, too.
The limit for the season was two swans and I shot my first one the second day of hunting and my 2nd
was taken the 3rd day out.
On the 2nd day there were 5 of us hunting and 5 swans were shot which was the most my buddy had ever seen killed in one day. We were all victorious.
Then the rest of the fun followed…the feast was great. The swans were marinated in Italian dressing and teriyaki sauce and then grilled.
Nope…doesn’t taste like chicken but more like steak.
This trip is one I would recommend to any waterfowl hunter.

Thanksgiving View from Our Outdoorsmen & Women
November 23, 2011 by CollegiateCamo · Leave a Comment
First of all, I am thankful for God. I’m thankful for all that He has given me. I am thankful for the wonderful family that he has given me which taught me many important things in life especially to value the outdoors and cherish all of the little things in life. I am thankful for my beautiful wife who shares the love of the outdoors and who enjoys some of the same passions in life with me. Lastly, I am thankful for the land that we live in and the men and women who protect it. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to live in this great country that God has created. Happy Thanksgiving!
I am thankful for my family, my friends and the men and women who fight for my rights everyday! So often we take all these things for granted only to wake up and have nothing! I love the thought of my family being there to welcome me at any given time and my friends being there the same! The armed forces for whole heartedly and fearlessly fighting any and all who oppose my freedom! For the outdoor family that has welcomed me by either having me as a prostaffer or have so graciously asked to sponsor me! I support thanksgiving by saying Thank You to all of you!!! Without each other we have nothing!! Most of all I’m thankful to the Good LORD above for giving me breathe, life and everyone I’ve ever met!! YOU ALL are THANKSGIVING!!!!!!! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of you and your lives!!!
~ GATORMAN
What I am thankful for is my family, friends and those who are serving to protect our rights as outdoorsman. Thank you to each and every one and I wish you all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
I love Thanksgiving! It’s a time for me to reflect on every way I have been blessed. I am thankful for my 2 wonderful and healthy sons. Although they are young, they still have a strong desire to be outdoors and they enjoy learning about hunting, fishing, and sports. I am thankful for my wife who allows me to enjoy the outdoors and is still there when I return from hunting or fishing trip! I am also very thankful for my father-in-law. Six years ago he was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer and he was given a life expectancy of up to 6 months. Over the 6 years he has gotten to know his grand kids and taught me a thing or two about running the farm. The cancer is finally catching up to him and his days are numbered but I am so thankful for the “extra” 6 years he got to be with us. Finally, I am thankful that I have the opportunity to hunt and fish and for the time I get to spend outdoors with family and friends.
Too often people relate happiness or wealth to personal possessions and I’m guilty of it also. I am certainly thankful for my beautiful collection of guns and bows as well as all my hunting gear and even my Chevy Silverado. However what I am truly thankful for cant be measured with money. I am blessed to have the best father and sister I could ever ask for. I am thankful for them more than anything as well as my friends. I am also thankful for the days I spend in the woods and water. There is nothing like watching the world come alive as deer wander through the timber and ducks cup their wings into my spread. Finally I am thankful that I live in the greatest country in the world where I can enjoy all these simple things that make my life what it is. God Bless America. Happy Holidays
I would like to use this time to count all my blessings, my loved ones are counted twice. J I’m thankful for having such a loving and supportive family. By family I mean my God given and those that I chose (aka my dear friends). WE are quite the herd! We have our health and each other, both intangible things that cannot be labeled with a price tag. I’m blessed to have work and more especially to do what I love in an industry that I truly believe in. I love everyone I get to work with! I’m blessed to have such an incredible ProStaff Team whom offers support, encouragement and wisdom. I am thankful for our troops, law enforcement and firefighters and this beautiful country that I choose to reside in. I’m blessed to be a part of a wonderful community. I’m blessed with a cheerful home filled with life and prosperity of knowledge. Looking from the outside in, I’m one lucky girl to have so many wonderful things in my life and for that I am very grateful. Wishing you a lovely and blessed holiday season from my home to yours! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Vacationing in Wyoming & Montana

This June I got the chance to spend 8 days in Wyoming. I started my journey in Jackson Hole for 4 days. Talk about a BEAUTIFUL town! I did lots of hiking in Jackson, but my favorite activity was horseback riding. The views were beautiful, as I was able to see 3 different mountain ranges from where I was riding. After the 4 days in Jackson Hole, WY, my family and I headed into Yellowstone National Park. Over the next 4 days, we stayed in various places throughout the park including cabins at Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, and Yellowstone Lake.
We also stayed one night at Chico Hot Springs in Montana. I cannot find the words to explain how extremely gorgeous the area is. It sounds silly, but there were times when I truly felt like one of the pioneers experiencing this rugged land for the first time. I saw more wildlife in the park than I have in my entire life (and I am an outdoorsy person). Topping the list were bison, pronghorns, moose, coyotes, marmots, elk, and bears. It was incredible how close the animals often were to the roads. I had my fair share of up-close encounters with several bison.
After my stay in Yellowstone, I have a new-found appreciation for the wilderness. I am so thankful that our country preserved that land for education and observation. There is so much to be learned in the wilderness! If you ever get the chance, please visit Yellowstone National Park. It seems weird, but it really gives you a sense of pride in your country and how many beautiful things it has to offer!

13 ft. 800 lb. Aggressive Monster Gator Caught

Just another gator call by the Game Warden? Negative! This was the call that excites me and makes my blood pump through my veins like a river cutting through a canyon! What set this call apart from all my other ones is the concern in the voice on the other line! MONSTER Gator that has shown extreme aggression towards people. Even though this gator was located on private property, the landowner had become afraid to get close to the water for any purpose! He couldn’t put a boat in or even mow around the edge! Time for this gator to be removed! When a gator loses all fear of man it becomes a threat to man!
I quickly called one of my assistants and got a plan into action! As Brian arrived I went over our plan of attack! I already had the gator cage and gator getter 1 loaded and waiting. Brian showed up with as much anticipation as I had and we set off to tame this gator. As we drove to the property we went over the normal safety precautions, keep chicken out of pocket, change chicken blood smelling shirt and put clean smelling one on, life floatation devices in boat, Swiss Army knife handy…..etc… You get the picture! Seriously, we went over the normal safety standards I have at any given time for these respect demanding awesome dinosaurs!
We arrived at the pond around the same time my local Game Warden did and after receiving a short tour of the place we quietly loaded the boat and arranged all the equipment so we could be as precise and efficient as quickly as possible; when dealing with gators of a large caliber all readiness at all time is demanded! To our surprise during set up we had not seen this beast yet. As we were just about to shove the boat off the Ranger exclaimed here he comes, I looked in the direction he was pointing and immediately got an adrenaline rush from what I was seeing! A massive 13-foot gator with his back out of the water and barreling toward us! WHOA!!! Aggressive? Understatement!!
No time for second guessing just time for action!! I decided since this monster was this aggressive I would match him! We aimed straight for him and as we narrowed the gap he grew! I was staring at a 13-foot gator that had seen more days than I have even come close too and a since of respect crossed my mind as I was in awe of what was about to take place! The majestic, gnarly beauty of an incredible beast!
Seeing as to where this Gator was closing the gap I decided to catch him with a snare, he wasn’t afraid of me and I wasn’t about to let him win, as he inched closer I stuck my snare pole out and slipped it over his head and with the precise motion I tightened down and the water exploded like a bomb had just went off! Luckily Brian grabbed the back of my pants as I was about to be pulled out and I was so fixated on the fight I didn’t realize I was totally leaning over the front of the boat in a struggle that I couldn’t afford to lose! The gator was pulling my gator getter 1 around like we were rag dolls, the sheer force and power of what was pulling us around is and always will be impressive! As he was wearing down I decided to get a top jaw rope on him – not so easy. I was pulling with all I had to get his head in a place where I could just slip another on him but you try pulling over 800 pounds of muscle bone and attitude up, it just doesn’t happen so easy! After another 20 min of a fight like you have never experienced I was finally able to get my jaw rope in place and Brian guided us to the shore! Hard part was now beginning!! We had the monster exhausted but so were we! I literally had to pull him out of the water with my truck! I was able to tape his mouth and the rest is history!!! Due to the nature of this gator he was not able to be relocated. His loss of fear could’ve been deadly!
You have to see this one to believe it:
Camouflage Wedding Day?
June 20, 2011 by CollegiateCamo · 1 Comment
White dresses, huge veils and trains, grooms dressed up in the tuxes they will have to return in a few days, huge guest lists and two people vowing to spend their lives together…. What could make this moment more beautiful? Camo! We at CollegiateCamo have come to the consensus that everything is better in camo. Have a dog? Get it camo! Have a baby? It will look adorable (and deer stand-ready) in Real Tree Hardwoods onesies! Camo is literally everywhere these days. Since we are full swing into June, I could not ignore the wedding theme after seeing camo wedding ring sets, we had to do something to show folks how fun camo can be!
A bride can order her full dress from a shop like Camo Formal wedding dresses, you can find RealTree camouflage wedding rings, and bakeries can make you a custom-designed cake that will suit your liking. Don’t forget the wedding night! CollegiateCamo offers plenty of CollegiateCamo camo lingerie and loungewear for the honeymoon for the bride as well. These few items are not the end though; I have seen TV shows where the couples get married in a deer stand!
Will your bride-to-be want to be in a camo wedding? Maybe, maybe not, but you can do as little or as much as you want. From wearing just a camo garter to a full blown camo wedding gown, she does have her options. (And women like options, trust me on that one!) Either way, good luck with the plans and we hope you find these pictures as fitting for an outdoors couple wedding as we did!

- Camo Wedding Rings
