Young Deer Cozies Up to Fishermen

Sometimes mother nature and humanity really seem to be as one. Look at this fawn that comes up to the human and trusts him to play and feed him. The natural instinct of the animal is to run from humans, that they are bad, but this little fawn seems to be completely comfortable with his new friend and playmate. (Thanks to the folks who sent out this crazy cute forward e-mail.)
Allow Licensed Students to Carry Firearms on Campus

If you feel like we do, you probably really like your freedom to be able to carry your firearms. If you watch the news, or just pay attention to news items in general, violence is everywhere. From big cities to tiny communities, there is always the possibility of someone doing something stupid with a gun or other weapon. We fully support the right to protect yourself, no matter where you may be. We are not supporting gratuitous violence, just supporting the right to protect yourself and quite possibly, others. We have all seen or heard of a crazed gunman going somewhere and emptying round after round and clip after clip into a crowd of innocent people. What if, just one time, someone stood up and fired back and took out the person causing all the chaos and pain?
We appreciate what the police departments and sheriff’s departments around this country do. But, by the time the 911 emergency call has come in, something bad has already happened. They can only respond as quick as they possibly can. College campuses are huge. Police will have a difficult time getting to the scene of the crime. I have never seen a news interview where witnesses say, “Boy, I’m really glad the innocent victims couldn’t protect themselves.” They speak of the horror of seeing innocent people slaughtered and the atrocity that unfolded before their eyes. We fully support the right to conceal and carry on campus and with that, we want to shed some light on a web site called http://www.concealedcampus.org/. This organization fully stands up for gun rights on campus. They are hitting it nationally as well. Their site delivers a lot of great information for students, alumni and just regular citizens who look forward to protecting themselves while on campus. Most intresting of their items is the Empty Holster Protest which takes place in the spring of each year. The college you attend or graduated from received a lot of money on your behalf, you deserve to have your opinion heard. You can write to your university or alumni association and let them know that students have rights to protect themselves.
Texas to the Rescue: Saving Big 12

Should anyone ever doubt the “greatness” of Texas ? We’ve always heard that everything is bigger in Texas – including clout.
The Big 12 has been saved solely by one major college sports entity – the University of Texas and their Longhorns. When all the doubt about the Big 12 surviving was mounting, Texas had the fate of the conference in their back pocket.
Will the rivalry of Texas ever be the same after this heroic move to keep the Big 12 together? There will be a new-found respect for this power house. Regardless of the conference rivalries, in the end all Big 12 teams and fans root for other Big 12 teams, even when it’s really hard.
Yes, it was disappointing for us to watch the University of Kansas Jayhawks fall in the NCAA tournament even though they are our biggest Big 12 rival.
It‘s an emotion akin to sibling rivalry. It’s tough to sometimes be the kid that never quite lives up to the family expectations, but you can’t turn your back on your big brother. Our big brother now is Texas and they make us proud.
Of course, it’s easier to negotiate a deal when you‘ve got the millions behind you, the state pushing to keep all the Texas teams in the same conference and multiple championship notches in your belt. That’s ok though. We now know that behind every great conference there’s at least one great college sports team and to be associated with them in whatever way is beneficial for the entire group.
And, you have to believe that after the Texas Longhorns made their decision (along with Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Baylor) that it was not a viable “Texas Conference” so these schools need the remaining six teams to compete.
Would the other universities have done the same for Texas in the same situation? We might never know, but for now it doesn’t matter—Texas is a big hero to the Big 12!
The Big 12 Shake-Up Shake Up the Fans as Well?

Wow! What a week with all the shenanigans and goings on and whatnot’s with the Big 12! Being that I am from Missouri and have been transplanted to Kansas, I know how important the Big 12 Tournaments are to the Heartland. If the Big 12 were gone, it would be like taking away Christmas, apple pie, camouflage and Ted Nugent’s music. It’s just un-American. I kind of hesitate to say it, but it’s like the Pac-10 is the hunter and the Big 12 is the hunted. Don’t get us wrong, we need the rivalry. The rivalry is where a majority of the conferences thrive. If some of the rivalry is taken away because of teams switching conferences, it just changes the whole dynamic of the long-standing rivalries that we, as fans, have come to love as part of the tournaments. The dynamics will also change for the teams. If a Big 12 team switches over to Pac-10, who will be the new teams nemesis? There are a million questions like this, in our College Tourney Doomsday Apocalypse. MU needs KU, Auburn needs Alabama, and the list goes on and on. So, what do the fans think of the shake up? Will the Big 12 survive the stay in the field, or will they be taken down like a 14-point buck who has met his demise?
Big 12 Breaks Down

Does a border even matter—where are the minutemen of the Big 12 Borders when you need them? How can this happen in a seemingly overnight tragedy? What was one of the best bragging rights conferences looks to be no more in a matter of just a few days, or even hours. And, to think that it all started with the defection of University of Colorado, followed closely by Nebraska. For those of us who don’t understand all the money enhancements that come from these types of negotiation our hearts are broken.
The Big 12 is known for the best rivalries in the nation. Now with this fiasco we have become the “pity” of other conference fans. The pity mongers discuss poor Mizzou, KU, Kansas State and Iowa State (and Baylor). Baylor gets a little bit of a reprieve for having the Texas clout and being a private institution.
Where will everyone end up? Better save those old “Big 12” conference T-shirts – they could bring a mint on eBay! The big money is in football, but the above mentioned uiversiities aren’t all that bad at football, with bowl bids in the last several years. Yes, understandably it’s the TV money and Kansas City just isn’t a big market. However, these schools offer monetary support to the Kansas City economy and all of this shifting around is detrimental to the area.
So unfortunately, while the Big 12 commissioner was sleeping the big deals were being made that have desecrated the conference. I can’t imagine that KU would be too happy with this kind of representation; they are one of the most visible athletic institutions in the nation, not just the Big 12. Next to Texas (UT) I would guess the biggest in the Big 12. So where will KU end up? Oh yeah, they’re a “basketball” school and all of this commotion is about football—right?
The hot rivalries in the Big 12 is what makes this so much fun for the fans. The KU vs MU rivalry isn’t just born out of hothead college students. This rivalry goes way back to the civil war! Not to mention, the Kansas State vs KU rivalry never ends – just take a drive on I-70 between Lawrence and Manhattan and it’s quite visible.
The next few days will have fans of the original Big 12 biting their nails in anticipation of where their favorite team will end up. Will Mizzou possibly go to the Big 10 and the new big rivalry for them will be University of Illinois (less the civil war)? Will KU move to the Pac 10? How about K-State, Iowa State and Baylor?
It just doesn’t “pay” to be loyal these days — loyalty never got you anywhere but in a crisis. It unfortunately seems that it is only the money that counts. If you ask us here at CollegiateCamo, t is a sad, sad day in the world of college sports.
