It turns out that boats and trucks are not the only fantastic places to adorn a CollegiateCamo decal of your favorite college sports team in camo. These folks put their Oklahoma State University Cowboys decal on a golf cart! Way to repurpose the decals to cross into even more sports. We dig it, guys.

Shoot like a girl? Better hope you can.

Better be careful with how you answer that, because you might just be asking for more competition than you can handle, guys. History has proven that women can hold their own when it comes to firearms and beat even the toughest competition – men or women.
When you hear the name Annie Oakley, certainly you imagine scenes of the old west back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. You’ve seen the photos of Annie with her rifle, dressed in a long flowing dress and a smile on her face. She was quite the sharpshooter and exhibition shooter. Her talents gave her the title of first American female superstar acting in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show. It’s been told that Annie could with her .22 caliber rifle split a playing card 90 feet up and split it card edge on plus putting 5 or 6 more holes in the card before hitting the ground.
Then there were the other female shooting heroes of the Old West! Calamity Jane who was a sharp shooter and also a performer in Buffalo Bills show. It’s been told she liked her alcohol — wonder if that’s where the name came from? And then there was Belle Starr who liked to hang out with the desperados back then. Could she have been the originator of “Good girls have no fun”? She reportedly had several marriages and a bad temper. (I wonder which came first.) Importantly, though—she could shoot!
Now to bring us up to date with some of the modern gals that are the best of the best. Kim Rhode is our American hero. Four-time Olympian 1996, 2004 gold medalist,2000 bronze medalist,2008 silver medalist. Kim got her competitive start in American skeet, winning the championship at age 13 then becoming captain of the All American team at 14.
Our own Midwest gal Haley Dunn from Eddyville, Iowa started shotgunning competitively at age 12. When she was 14, she entered the Iowa State Sporting Cays Championship and won the Gold Medal. Haley was the youngest lady champion in the event’s history. From there she went on to claim the Iowa state championship three more times. Lucky for the University of Missouri, where Haley graduated with a degree in Agricultural Business Management in 2007, she was active with the Mizzou Shooting Team. There she won the Gold Medal and HOA Ladies Championship at the ACUI Intercollegiate Clay Target National Championships. Haley recently claimed her first Gold medal of 2010 at the shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy, taking her first step toward the 2012 Olympic Games. Impressively, she is ranked #1 in the USA, and is making her second appearance on the 2010 World Cup circuit. She smashed 73 out of 75 targets, and entered the Final with a one target lead over the rest of the field. Missing only one target in the Final, Dunn ended the day hitting 97 out of 100.
We will keep an eye out for great shooting achievements from all women who do “shoot like girls” and are proud of it.

Shotgun Shooting Sports Outing

Any day you can go shooting is a great day! We rounded up the CollegiateCamo team and had a great time this weekend blasting away at clay targets and meeting new friends.
We had way more Kansas State fans shooting in our little group, but we did manage to get some representation from the Mizzou fans and KU fans. (Surprisingly, we were all still friendly and speaking to each other at the end of the competition.)
Statistics say that 19 million Americans safely enjoy target shooting. And we were no exceptions. We were shotgunning and hit the Trap Field with determination. “Trap” is the oldest shotgun shooting sport in America.
On our future outings, we plan to try our luck at Skeet & Sporting Clays as well! With almost equal distribution in our group of half gals and half guys, we had quite the battle of the sexes competition going.
There are several other organizations we believe are important to shooting sports, too. You can find out more about the game of trap from the Amateur Trapshooting Association. The Scholastic Clay Target Program and the ATA’s AIM program provide shooting competition opportunities for young trap shooters.
One of our favorite organizations is The National Shooting Sports Foundation, which administers First Shots, a program that introduces newbies to shooting.
For those of you who have not tried shotgun sports competition and games, we highly recommend it! We had an absolute blast!
Young Deer Cozies Up to Fishermen

Sometimes mother nature and humanity really seem to be as one. Look at this fawn that comes up to the human and trusts him to play and feed him. The natural instinct of the animal is to run from humans, that they are bad, but this little fawn seems to be completely comfortable with his new friend and playmate. (Thanks to the folks who sent out this crazy cute forward e-mail.)
Allow Licensed Students to Carry Firearms on Campus

If you feel like we do, you probably really like your freedom to be able to carry your firearms. If you watch the news, or just pay attention to news items in general, violence is everywhere. From big cities to tiny communities, there is always the possibility of someone doing something stupid with a gun or other weapon. We fully support the right to protect yourself, no matter where you may be. We are not supporting gratuitous violence, just supporting the right to protect yourself and quite possibly, others. We have all seen or heard of a crazed gunman going somewhere and emptying round after round and clip after clip into a crowd of innocent people. What if, just one time, someone stood up and fired back and took out the person causing all the chaos and pain?
We appreciate what the police departments and sheriff’s departments around this country do. But, by the time the 911 emergency call has come in, something bad has already happened. They can only respond as quick as they possibly can. College campuses are huge. Police will have a difficult time getting to the scene of the crime. I have never seen a news interview where witnesses say, “Boy, I’m really glad the innocent victims couldn’t protect themselves.” They speak of the horror of seeing innocent people slaughtered and the atrocity that unfolded before their eyes. We fully support the right to conceal and carry on campus and with that, we want to shed some light on a web site called http://www.concealedcampus.org/. This organization fully stands up for gun rights on campus. They are hitting it nationally as well. Their site delivers a lot of great information for students, alumni and just regular citizens who look forward to protecting themselves while on campus. Most intresting of their items is the Empty Holster Protest which takes place in the spring of each year. The college you attend or graduated from received a lot of money on your behalf, you deserve to have your opinion heard. You can write to your university or alumni association and let them know that students have rights to protect themselves.
Texas to the Rescue: Saving Big 12
June 17, 2010 by CollegiateCamo · Leave a Comment
Should anyone ever doubt the “greatness” of Texas ? We’ve always heard that everything is bigger in Texas – including clout.
The Big 12 has been saved solely by one major college sports entity – the University of Texas and their Longhorns. When all the doubt about the Big 12 surviving was mounting, Texas had the fate of the conference in their back pocket.
Will the rivalry of Texas ever be the same after this heroic move to keep the Big 12 together? There will be a new-found respect for this power house. Regardless of the conference rivalries, in the end all Big 12 teams and fans root for other Big 12 teams, even when it’s really hard.
Yes, it was disappointing for us to watch the University of Kansas Jayhawks fall in the NCAA tournament even though they are our biggest Big 12 rival.
It‘s an emotion akin to sibling rivalry. It’s tough to sometimes be the kid that never quite lives up to the family expectations, but you can’t turn your back on your big brother. Our big brother now is Texas and they make us proud.
Of course, it’s easier to negotiate a deal when you‘ve got the millions behind you, the state pushing to keep all the Texas teams in the same conference and multiple championship notches in your belt. That’s ok though. We now know that behind every great conference there’s at least one great college sports team and to be associated with them in whatever way is beneficial for the entire group.
And, you have to believe that after the Texas Longhorns made their decision (along with Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Baylor) that it was not a viable “Texas Conference” so these schools need the remaining six teams to compete.
Would the other universities have done the same for Texas in the same situation? We might never know, but for now it doesn’t matter—Texas is a big hero to the Big 12!
The Big 12 Shake-Up Shake Up the Fans as Well?
June 16, 2010 by CollegiateCamo · Leave a Comment
Wow! What a week with all the shenanigans and goings on and whatnot’s with the Big 12! Being that I am from Missouri and have been transplanted to Kansas, I know how important the Big 12 Tournaments are to the Heartland. If the Big 12 were gone, it would be like taking away Christmas, apple pie, camouflage and Ted Nugent’s music. It’s just un-American. I kind of hesitate to say it, but it’s like the Pac-10 is the hunter and the Big 12 is the hunted. Don’t get us wrong, we need the rivalry. The rivalry is where a majority of the conferences thrive. If some of the rivalry is taken away because of teams switching conferences, it just changes the whole dynamic of the long-standing rivalries that we, as fans, have come to love as part of the tournaments. The dynamics will also change for the teams. If a Big 12 team switches over to Pac-10, who will be the new teams nemesis? There are a million questions like this, in our College Tourney Doomsday Apocalypse. MU needs KU, Auburn needs Alabama, and the list goes on and on. So, what do the fans think of the shake up? Will the Big 12 survive the stay in the field, or will they be taken down like a 14-point buck who has met his demise?
